Utilities

Preserve your utility's service communications.

When an outage update goes out, replies arrive within minutes and the restoration estimate gets edited. Brolly preserves captured posts, replies and each captured revision in one searchable record — so communications, records and counsel can respond without relying on screenshots.

Separate pressures · shared record

Three pressures. One connected record.

Changing operational details, a public conversation and records obligations are separate pressures on your team. A captured chronology can support each one without deciding classification, redaction or disclosure.

Operations

Details change fast

Restoration estimates, affected areas and cause descriptions are edited as crews learn more — and the earlier wording disappears from the public page. Each version is preserved with its own timestamp.

Public replies

The conversation is public

Replies stack up within minutes, and a comment may need to come down. Capture and moderation history preserve the original text, author handle and removal time even after it leaves the live page.

Records & legal

Obligations vary

Public-records duties vary by ownership model, jurisdiction and content — not every utility is subject to FOIA. See your state's rules.

An outage update, preserved

One outage update. Its captured history beside it.

This interface reconstruction uses fictional Northstar Public Utilities data. It shows how an Original post, its Edited versions and the surrounding customer replies can be reviewed together.

01
The utility publishes

A connected official account posts an outage update with a restoration estimate.

02
The post is Edited

The restoration estimate and cause details are updated as crews confirm them.

The community behind the update

Every update reaches a real community.

Utility channels carry outage notices, safety alerts and service updates that people rely on around the clock. Preserving that context helps your team respond with care when questions, requests or records inquiries follow.

Preserve the earlier wording

The restoration time just changed again.

Restoration estimates and cause details are edited as crews learn more, and the earlier wording disappears from the public page. Brolly preserves each captured version, with its own timestamp, before the post moves on.

Questions utility teams ask

Asked by comms, records and operations.

Which utility social posts should be captured?
Official accounts used for outage updates, safety notices, billing and service announcements — along with the public replies, comments, edits and deletions that follow. Brolly connects official utility accounts across Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, YouTube, LinkedIn and TikTok and captures the full conversation, not just the original post.
Does every utility have public-records obligations?
Not automatically. Public-records obligations vary by ownership model (municipal, cooperative, investor-owned), jurisdiction and the content involved. Some public utilities are subject to state public-records law; others are not, or only partially — and not every utility is subject to FOIA. Confirm your utility’s status with counsel; Brolly preserves the record either way.
How quickly are changes captured?
Brolly captures through each platform’s official connection as the platform makes content and revision events available — for most supported content this happens continuously, without anyone saving screenshots. Availability of intermediate revisions depends on what each platform’s API provides, so an edit visible only briefly between platform events may not be available to capture.
What happens when an outage update is edited or deleted?
The original version, each captured edit and the deletion event are preserved with their own timestamp. Nothing is overwritten — edited content keeps its prior versions in the record, and a deleted post remains available to your team even after it disappears from the public page.
Can customer comments and utility replies be searched together?
Yes. Posts, comments, replies and media from connected accounts are captured into one searchable record, so your team can review a question, the official reply and any later correction together instead of piecing together screenshots.
What does setup involve?
Connect your official utility accounts, and verify which pages and channels should be captured. Scope depends on the number of accounts and channels your utility operates.

Keep the public informed. Keep the record.
